Eagles Post Seven-Run Eighth Inning To Earn 8-6 Come From Behind Win

Belton, Texas-A day after a heart-breaking tenth inning loss, Ozarks took out its frustration with a seven-run eighth inning to earn a 8-6 come-from-behind victory over No. 19 Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday in American Southwest Conference play.

In the eighth, the Eagles (8-12, 5-10 ASC) had three walks, four hits and took advantage of one error, two hit by pitches and two wild pitches to total seven runs. In all, the Crusaders (15-4, 12-3 ASC) used five different pitchers in the eighth. Trailing 6-1 heading into the eighth, Alex Smith and Taylor Parker strung together back-to-back hits for RBI to begin Ozarks' rally. Smith would eventually score on an error and Parker would cross the plate on a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 6-5. Freddy Prince then tied the game with a groundout to score Peyton Johnigan. With two outs, Sam Shook followed with an RBI single to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead it wouldn't relinquish. With the bases loaded, Smith was beaned to push Ozarks' final run across.

Shook and Smith each had two hits to pace the offensive attack.

Bo Thomas (3-0) received the win in relief. Thomas threw three and one-third innings and allowed just one hit.

Ozarks will host Mississippi College March 28-29 in a three-game conference series.
