Fortenberry Shuts Out Eagles In Series Opener

Fortenberry Shuts Out Eagles In Series Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-Mississippi College pitcher Brooks Fortenberry tossed a complete game shutout Friday afternoon to lead the Choctaws to a 8-0 win over the Eagles in American Southwest Conference play.

The left-handed Fortenberry scattered five hits and struck out six to earn his third victory of the season. Ozarks (8-13, 5-11 ASC) did put runners in scoring position in the second and third innings, but still came up empty. In the second, Ozarks had two hits, with John Singler advancing to second base on Peyton Johnigan's single to center field. But Fortenberry forced a pop out to end Ozarks' scoring threat. In the third, Freddy Prince ripped a double, but was later called out at third base when he attempted to advance on Sam Shook's fielder's choice. Fortenberry then allowed just two hits the rest of the way. Tyler Erickson (0-4) suffered the loss even though he allowed five hits in seven innings of work. Erickson didn't give up a run until the fourth and then the Choctaws (10-11, 8-8 ASC) plated an unearned run in the sixth.

Ozarks will finish its series against Mississippi College tomorrow with a double-header starting at noon.
