Texas-Tyler Edges Baseball Team To Complete Sweep

Clarksville, Arkansas-Texas-Tyler scratched across two runs in the sixth and the eighth and then held off a late Ozarks' rally to secure a 4-1 American Southwest Conference win Sunday.

With the win, Texas-Tyler (10-5, 7-2 ASC) completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Eagles (4-10, 1-6 ASC). On the mound, Ozarks' starter Andrew Beck and Texas-Tyler's starter Cade Suggs were in a pitching duel for most of the game. Through five complete innings, Beck and Suggs allowed just two hits apiece, and both struck out three. The Patriot offense eventually produced four hits in the sixth against Beck, culminating in two runs. After the Patriots generated two more runs in the top of the eighth and led 4-0, Ozarks posted back-to-back singles to start the bottom half of the inning. Following an out, Texas-Tyler induced an infield double play to strand two Ozarks' runners. Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Ozarks looked again to crack the Patriot pitching staff, but produced just one run.  Dean Igert recorded an infield single to start the bottom of the ninth, and eventually advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Taylor Parker drew a walk to put two runners on base. After an out, pinch runner Jordan Jones and Igert advanced a base on another wild pitch. Jake Smith then posted the only RBI for Ozarks with an infield groundout. But Patriot relief pitcher Chad Hayes forced a groundout to end the game.

Beck (0-1) received the loss after tossing seven and one-third innings. Beck finished with six strikeouts. Suggs (1-1) allowed five hits and took the win for Texas-Tyler in seven and one-third innings of work. John Singler and Alex Smith each had two hits for the Eagles.

Ozarks will travel to Alpine, Texas, to face Sul Ross State University March 13-14 for a three-game series.
