Eagles Notch First ASC Win Behind Dominguez

Eagles Notch First ASC Win Behind Dominguez

Brownwood, Texas-Senior right-hander Oscar Dominguez fashioned a four-hitter to lead the Eagles to a 6-1 win over Howard Payne University in game one Monday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

Dominguez (1-1) faced 26 batters and struck out four in a complete game effort. Behind Dominguez's performance, the Eagles (4-7, 1-3 ASC) were able to notch their first conference win. Howard Payne (4-3, 3-2 ASC) did score in the bottom of the second, but otherwise Dominguez held the Jacket bats in check. Howard Payne threatened one last time in the fourth, putting runners at the corners with one out, but Dominguez forced a fly out and an infield pop out to keep the Jackets from scoring a run. Ozarks' offense produced nine hits, led by a 3-for-4 effort from Andrew Beck. More importantly, Beck drove in four runs from his leadoff spot and scored twice. Keaton Ramsey finished 2-for-3 and scored twice. With the score tied 1-1, Beck doubled in a pair of runs and Dean Igert batted in another in the fifth inning to put Ozarks in front 4-1. Beck again delivered a big hit in the seventh inning on a two-run single to left field.

Howard Payne then came back to take game two 5-2.  Ozarks put up a two-run seventh inning to trim the deficit to 3-2. Beck tripled in a run and Taylor Parker recorded an RBI in the frame. But Howard Payne responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 5-2. The Eagles totaled five hits, all coming from different players. John Singler (0-2) took the loss on the mound as the starter.

Ozarks will host Texas-Tyler in a three-game series this weekend.
