East Texas Baptist Wins Baseball Series

Clarksville, Ark.-East Texas Baptist won a three-game series after taking the final two games against the Eagles in American Southwest Conference play over the weekend.

Game one of the series was finished Saturday after it was suspended in the sixth due to rain. The Eagles (8-26, 5-20 ASC) won that game 8-7. The Eagles were leading the Tigers 6-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth Friday. The Eagles struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning. Andres Acosta doubled in one run. In the third, Taylor Parker recorded an RBI single to bring the score to 3-0. In the fourth, Ozarks had three hits and plated three more runs. Sam Shook had a two-run double and Andrew Beck had an RBI double in the frame. When play resumed Saturday, ETBU (18-18, 9-15 ASC) rallied for four runs in the seventh on a grand slam. The home run brought ETBU within 8-5. The Tigers then scored two more runs in the eighth to make it 8-7. Relief pitcher Matt Dixon then retired the side in the top of the ninth to preserve the win. Andrew Beck went 4-for-5 to pace Ozarks at the plate. Starting pitcher John Singler (3-3) received the win.
    
The Tigers pitched a shutout in game two of the series to come away with a 4-0 win. Ozarks left seven runners on base in the game. Ozarks had the base loaded with one out in the third, but grounded into a double play to end the threat. In the fifth, Ozarks again loaded the bases with no outs and came up empty. ETBU recorded a strikeout and then forced another double play to end the scoring opportunity for Ozarks.
    
Alex Smith and Beck posted two hits each. Oscar Dominguez (1-7) received the loss as the starter.

The Tigers then won the series by recording 21 hits, which included four home runs, and scoring 20 runs in a 20-7 win in game three. The Tigers took control early scoring six runs in the first frame. Ozarks eventually cut it to 9-7 after four innings, but couldn't slow down the hot Tiger bats. The Tigers plated six in the sixth and five more in the seventh. Starting pitcher Alex Rodriguez (3-6) received the loss. Grady Finley paced Ozarks at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance.

Ozarks will travel to Springdale to face Ecclesia College in non-conference play April 28.
