Baseball Team Drops Season-Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-A big sixth inning proved to be the difference for Huntingdon College as it handed the Eagles a 9-6 loss in the Millsaps College Tournament Friday.


Ozarks (0-1) trailed 2-1 before scoring three runs in the third inning to grab a 4-2 lead. In the third, Ozarks recorded three hits and took advantage of two errors. Patrick Clifford highlighted the inning with an RBI double to score Dean Igert, who reached on a single. Huntingdon (3-1) pulled within 4-3 after four complete innings and then scored five runs on three hits in the sixth. The Eagles did mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth after Zach Walker led off with a single. Adam Winter then drew a walk, and Dean Igert recorded a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with one out. Andrew Beck delivered a single to right field to score Walker and cut the deficit to 9-5. Clifford had an RBI groundout, but the rally stopped there.

Ozarks had ten hits in the game, while Huntingdon recorded nine. Beck, Walker and Justin Crider each collected two hits.

Keaton Ramsey went 3.1 innings as the starter. Brady Taylor (0-1) received the loss after tossing 2.1 innings in relief.

Ozarks will play LaGrange Saturday and Huntingdon Sunday.
