GAME ONE
Overview:
Clarksville, Ark.-LeTourneau University knocked the Eagles out of a playoff spot with a dramatic 8-7 win on Saturday. The loss ends the season for the Eagles (13-25, 12-18 ASC), while LeTourneau advances to the post-season. The Eagles had chances in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on base, but the Yellow Jackets found a way to get out of the jam and clinch the playoff spot. Trey Vance cranked out a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Eagles an early lead. Freshman left-handed pitcher Nicholas Bennett was inserted with no outs in the top of the fourth after LeTourneau scored two runs. Bennett did his job and did not allow a run to escape the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles stranded a pair of runners in scoring position. Bennett came through again in the fifth as two were in scoring position, but the freshman fanned Devin Greaff to get the third out and end the threat. The Eagles rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth behind three consecutive RBI singles from Dru Didway, Ben Cross and Luke Morrison. Tied 5-5, Bennett gave up a three-run homer in the sixth. But the Eagles scratched across a run with an RBI single and an error to bring it to 8-7 after seven complete innings. With runners on first and second and no outs, Blake Benson was inserted in the top of the ninth. Benson did his job and stranded each runner to give the Eagles a chance. However, LeTourneau stranded the Eagle runners in the ninth. Didway and Morrison had three hits.
