Men’s Soccer Team Battles Hendrix To 0-0 Tie In Season-Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-The men's soccer team opened the 2015 regular season with a 0-0 draw against Hendrix College Tuesday afternoon in Clarksville.

In hot and humid conditions, neither was able to net a score after 110 minutes of play, but the Eagles (0-0-1) did come close on a number of attacks. Early in the match and for most of the first half, Ozarks controlled the pace and posted six corner kicks and eight shots. Fueled by Ozarks' offensive pressure, Hendrix (0-0-1) goalkeeper Jerry Thomeczek was forced to make three saves in the first half alone. Despite its performance, Ozarks went into the second half scoreless against Hendrix. The Eagles again had a strong attack in the second half, recording ten shots. A Cory Jones header off a set piece sailed just over the cross bar in the 58th minute. The Eagles threatened again a few minutes later with three shots on frame over a two-minute span. The second overtime saw Layne Garcia rip one toward the frame, but it too went over the cross bar.

Austin Benner received the shutout in goal for Ozarks.

Travis Leach posted five shots for Ozarks, and Matt Weaver recorded three to pace the Eagles. Ozarks had 20 shots in the match.
