  • Wildcats Win Series Against Baseball Eagles

    Clarksville, Ark.-Louisiana College starting pitcher Andrew Robinson threw a complete game to help the Wildcats win game three 10-3 and take the series Saturday. Robinson fanned eight and allowed six hits in his outing. Chase Edwards hit a solo home run in the first to cut the Wildcat lead to 3-1. But the Eagles' offense struggled and wouldn't score again until the seventh. Rey Lozano accounted for that run as he singled in Sam Swartz. Lozano would record another RBI in the ninth. The Wildcats got a big double play in the bottom of the ninth just before Lozano's RBI. 
  • Eagles Offense Works Through Seven Wildcat Pitchers In 17-12 Win

    Clarksville, Ark.-Louisiana College opened the game with three runs and then kept the Eagles' offense in check the rest of the way to earn a 11-5 win in game one Friday. A pair of RBI doubles by Erick Aguirre and Chase Edwards brought the Eagles within 9-4 after five innings. But the Wildcats quickly answered with two runs in the next frame. Edwards would later hit a solo homer for the Eagles. Zach Stanley led the way with three hits for the Eagles.

  • Stanley's Bases Clearing Double Ignites Eagles
    April 16, 2019
    Clarksville, Ark.-Zach Stanley's bases clearing double in the third inning gave the Eagles the lead for good and helped Ozarks push past NCAA II Ouachita Baptist University 8-5 Tuesday afternoon. Ouachita Baptist jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the fourth, but the Eagles plated two runs in the bottom half of the second. Stanley and Rey Lozano had RBI to make it 5-2. In the third, Stanley delivered his big hit to right field to bring home all three runners on base. With the Eagles leading 6-4, Chase Edwards ripped an RBI single up the middle to drive in another run. Edwards gave the Eagles an insurance run in the sixth on a RBI single to right field. The Eagles pitching staff kept the Tigers off the board in the final four innings to secure the win. The team's defense proved to be tough as it recorded four double plays in the game. Stanley finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and Edwards was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Jacob Tamayo received the win and Corey Steward notched the save.
  • UT-Tyler Tosses Two-Hitter In Shutout Win

    Tyler, Texas-Nate Imig threw a two-hit complete game shutout to give UT-Tyler a 6-0 win over the Eagles in game one. The Patriots gave Imig the run support he needed by plating three runs in the third and three more in the fifth. The Eagles used four pitchers with starter Blake Benson receiving the loss.
  • Baseball Team Suffers Sweep At Hands Of UT Dallas

    Richardson, Texas-The University of Texas-Dallas Comets limited the Eagles to five hits in a 8-1 victory in game three to complete a sweep. The Comets scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings before the Eagles scored in the sixth. That run came from a Breyden Varner sacrifice fly. 
  • Texas-Dallas Baseball Hands Eagles Double-Header Setback

    Richardson, Texas-The University of Texas-Dallas Comets used a three-run first inning to take a 4-2 victory over University of the Ozarks in the first game of a Friday afternoon doubleheader at UTD. The Eagles out-hit the Comets 5-3 but left eight runners on base in the contest. The Comets took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning behind three unearned runs following an Eagles' fielding error. The Eagles pulled within 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning after Josh Stephens drew a two-out walk and scored in front of Zach Stanley's two-run home run, his third of the season.  The Eagles had runners in scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but could not get a run across the plate. The Comets added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 4-3. Eagles starter Dalton Spurgeon (1-3) took the loss despite give up just one earned run and three hits in six innings of work. Catcher Erick Aguirre had two of the Eagles' five hits.

  • Edwards Blasts Grand Slam In 6-5 Win

    Clarksville, Ark.-Chase Edwards blasted a grand slam in the third inning and the Eagles scored all six runs in that frame to power past Hendrix College 6-5. The win avenges a pair of shutout losses against Hendrix earlier in the season. Starting pitcher Jacob Tamayo (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win with an outstanding performance. Tamayo scattered eight hits over seven innings. In facing 28 batters, he never issued a walk. Hendrix did its most damage in the first inning against Tamayo scoring three runs, but the freshman settled in after that and did not allow another hit until the fifth inning. Meanwhile the Eagles loaded the bases with one out for the dangerous left-handed hitter Edwards. Edwards delivered a shot over the right field wall to ignite the inning. Josh Stephens and Zach Stanley later recorded RBI to bring the score to 6-3. The Warriors scored a run in the ninth with two outs, but Corey Steward forced a fly out to receive his third save of the season.
  • David Beck Tosses Two-Hit Complete Game

    Clarksville, Ark.-Starting pitcher David Beck threw a two-hit complete game to lead the Eagles to a 11-1 win over Howard Payne University in game three Saturday. The Yellow Jackets scored their only run in the third inning on a wild pitch. The Yellow Jackets had one hit in the inning (double) and then advanced the runner on a groundout before the wild pitch. The Eagles plated three runs in the first and then added one in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. Rocky Liveoak and Erick Aguirre each had RBI in the fourth. The Eagles pounded out six hits in the fifth with Josh Stephens, Fielder Dufrene, Liveoak and Breyden Varner all providing Beck with run support. Varner had a two-run double. The right-handed Beck had command of his fastball throughout the game. He fanned both Cliff Lunceford and Noah Payne looking in the third. The following inning, Beck got Ty McCain to ground into a double play and then struck out RJ Roberts to end the inning. In the fifth, he worked around a single and got Noah Coronado to ground into another double play. Beck faced 25 batters, struck out six and issued three walks. Varner and Aguirre had three-hit games for the Eagles.
  • Howard Payne Baseball Records Two Comeback Wins In Double-Header

    Clarksville, Ark.-Cliff Lunceford recorded a clutch two-run single in the eighth inning to help Howard Payne University to a 5-3 come-from-behind win in game one Friday. The Eagles opened the game with a run in the first frame on Chance Edwards' RBI single. The gritty Yellow Jackets later followed with a pair of runs in the next inning to hold a 2-1 advantage. The Eagles countered with two runs in the third on Breyden Varner's two-run homer. Howard Payne wouldn't go away and evened the score 3-3 in the sixth. Eventually, the Yellow Jackets were in position to plate the runs needed and delivered in the top of the eighth. From there, the Eagles flew out, grounded out, walked and flew out in the bottom of the eighth. Starting pitcher Dalton Spurgeon induced a double play in the third and relief pitcher Tyler Vernon did the same in the seventh to stop any scoring threats. The Eagles' offense produced eight hits, with Varner and Edwards tallying two hits apiece.
  • Baseball Team Completes Sweep Against Mary Hardin-Baylor

    Belton, Texas-Starting pitcher David Beck scattered four hits and struck out nine over eight innings to lead the Eagles to a 11-4 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday and complete the sweep against the Crusaders. Beck allowed just one earned run to pick up his second victory of the season. With the score tied 2-2 after six complete innings, the Eagles jumped on Mary Hardin-Baylor with five runs in the seventh. Breyden Varner, Zach Stanley and Sam Swartz drove in runs and Josh Stephens recorded a two-run single to push the Eagles in front 7-2. The Eagles added two more runs in the eighth, one coming from Varner and the other from Chase Edwards. In the top of the ninth, the Eagles extended their lead to 11-2. Beck cruised through the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings allowing just four base runners during that span. Swartz went 3-for-4 with three runs for the Eagles.
  • Spurgeon Throws Complete Game Shutout; Eagles Win Extra Inning Game Two

    Benton, Texas-Starting pitcher Dalton Spurgeon threw a three-hit complete game to lead the Eagles to a 6-0 shutout win in game one Friday. The Eagles opened the game with two runs, highlighted by an RBI triple from Erick Aguirre. The Crusaders managed little against the dominant 6-foot-5 right-hander from Missouri. Spurgeon pitched a hitless second, fourth, fifth and seventh inning to keep the shutout intact. Spurgeon mowed down five Crusader batters in the seven-inning outing. It was his first shutout of the season. The Eagles provided a steady dose of run support for Spurgeon throughout the game. Three Eagles had multiple-hit games. Spurgeon faced 27 batters, struck out five and walked three. 
  • Steady Offense Lifts Henderson State Past Eagles
    March 12, 2019
    Arkadelphia, Ark.-Henderson State University produced runs in five innings to hand the Eagles a 11-4 setback Tuesday night in Arkadelphia. The Reddies scored two runs in the first and another run in the third to lead 3-0. The Eagles generated three runs in the fifth behind an Edwin Rodriguez RBI single, Zach Stanley RBI double and an RBI groundout from Fielder Dufrene. Henderson State followed suit with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take the lead for good. The Reddies matched that total in the sixth and moved ahead 9-3. Rocky Liveoak had an RBI double in the seventh to finish the scoring for the Eagles. Josh Stephens paced the Eagles with two hits. 
  • Two Grand Slams Ignite 12-Run Seventh To Lift Eagles To 18-16 Win
    March 09, 2019
    Clarksville, Ark.-Windy conditions kept the ball flying out of Lonnie R. Qualls Field Saturday in game three against Spalding University. The Eagles used two grand slams and 12 runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 10-4 deficit to secure a wild 18-16 win. With wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour throughout the day, Spalding scored five runs in the first inning, including a three-run homer. Sam Swartz homered in the second to get one run back, but Spalding cranked out a two-run homer in the second to take a 7-1 lead. Swartz tripled in two runs in the third inning to make it 8-3. Trailing 10-4 after six complete innings, the Eagles changed the game by recording six hits and exploding for 12 runs in the seventh. The scoring begin when Josh Stephens drew a bases loaded walk, followed by a Zach Stanley RBI single. Another bases loaded walk, this time by Fielder Dufrene, drove in another run. Rocky Liveoak then blasted a grand slam to give the Eagles a 11-10 advantage. The patient Stephens drew another bases loaded walk to plate a run and then Stanley flexed his muscles by cranking out a grand slam to put the score at 16-10. The offensive show wasn't over for the Eagles as Liveoak and Breyden Varner hit solo home runs in the eighth.  With the Eagles leading 18-12 and the game far from over, Spalding hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth. With one out, relief pitcher Tyler Vernon forced two flyouts to end the game. Liveoak went 3-for-5 with five RBI. Stanley went 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs. Varner went 3-for-5 with four runs. Swartz went 3-for-5 with three RBI. In all, a combined eight home runs were hit in the game.
  • Spalding Baseball Edges Eagles In Double-Header
    March 08, 2019
    Clarksville, Ark.-Spalding overcame a strong pitching performance from starter Dalton Spurgeon to edge the Eagles 4-3 in game one. Spurgeon mowed down 11 Spalding batters over 8.1 innings, but ended up receiving the loss. A big RBI double from Spalding's Zane Baker in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference in the game against Spurgeon. But it was the Eagles who plated three runs in the first on two hits. Chase Edwards was responsible for two of those runs as he laced a single to centerfield. The other run came from a Spalding miscue in the field. Spalding matched the Eagles with three runs in the next frame to even the score. Neither team produced much offense until Spalding recorded two hits in the ninth. After allowing hits in the first and second, Spurgeon threw a hitless third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Edwards and Rey Lozano each had two hits.
  • Hendrix College Baseball Team Records Another Shutout
    March 05, 2019
    Clarksville, Ark.-Hendrix College plated two runs in the first inning and the Warrior pitcher staff cruised through nine innings to shutout the Eagles 3-0 on a chilly night in Conway. A two-run single up the middle by Hendrix in the first put the Warriors in control early. The Eagles' offense did get runners in scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't advance them any further. The Eagles totaled just four hits. Garrett Williams logged 6.2 innings and received the loss.
