Simpson College Plates One Run In Tenth For Victory

The Storm (2-1) put pressure on Ozarks (7-3) as it led off the top of the tenth with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners a base and Ozarks then intentionally walked Tyler Craig to load the bases. With one out, Jake Esdorh delivered a sacrifice RBI fly out that proved to be the game-winning run. The Eagles opened the bottom half of the inning with a single, but Simpson forced a fly out and then induced a double play ball to end the game.

Ozarks found itself in a 3-0 hole after the top of the first, but the Eagles got one run back in the bottom half of the frame behind a Nick Brill RBI single. Simpson wouldn't score again on Ozarks starting pitcher Jeffrey Works. After a quick top of the second by Works, Freddy Prince laced a RBI single to center field to score one and Sam Shook recorded another RBI single to even the score at 3-3.

Simpson recorded a triple in the top of the seventh with two outs, but Works struck out Michael Chia to keep the score tied. Ozarks did put runners on second and third in the seventh, but Simpson was able to force a groundout to end the threat.

Works was masterful through eight innings as he had eight strikeouts and walked just one. He was charged with one earned run. Ian Bryan (1-1) received the loss in relief.

Prince finished 2-for-4 and Brill went 2-for-5.

Ozarks will host Hendrix College Tuesday.
