Eagles Score Game Winning Run On Wild Pitch; Follow With 11-2 Win

Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles rallied late and eventually scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to upend Sul Ross State University 4-3 in game one and then followed with a 11-2 victory behind 15 hits Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

In game one, Ozarks (5-10, 3-8 ASC) started its rally with a Sam Shook lead-off single. Andrew Beck then walked and Tony Morales knocked in Shook to cut it to 3-2. John Singler drew a walk and Andres Acosta followed with an infield hit to load the bases. Quinton Ray then grounded out to second base, but Beck scored to tie the game, 3-3. With pinch runner Dean Igert on third, relief pitcher Hunter Flake threw one in the dirt to allow Igert to easily cross the plate and win the game.

After allowing two runs in the second, Tyler Erickson gave up just one hit until the seventh. Bo Thomas (2-0) would come in for relief and toss the final two-thirds of an inning to receive the win. Ozarks threatened to score in the fourth loading the bases with one out, but Sul Ross (9-9, 5-6 ASC) starting pitcher Jose Gonzales forced a double play ball to end the inning. In the fifth, Gonzales got help from rightfielder Ozzie Bueno on a spectacular catch. With runners on first and second with two outs, John Singler ripped one deep to right centerfield only to have Bueno make a leaping catch preventing Ozarks from scoring two runs.

Shook and Taylor Parker each had two hits. Erickson tossed six and one-third innings and struck out four.

In game two, the Eagles left 16 men on base, but it didn't matter as they got hits from nine different players. Tony Morales paced the 15-hit day with a 3-for-5 performance. Andres Acosta went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Beck, Igert and Peyton Johnigan each collected two hits.

Ozarks trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles quickly changed that by posting seven runs on the board. Ozarks finished the inning with six hits, including a key two-run single by Acosta. Ozarks extended its lead to 10-2 in the seventh on RBI from Morales and Alex Smith.

Jeffrey Works (1-3) received the win after throwing four and one-third innings in relief.

Ozarks will finish its series with Sul Ross tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
