  • Eagles Ends Season With Loss

    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles closed out the season with a 84-69 loss against Hardin-Simmons University Saturday. Neither team led by more than six points in a first half that featured four ties and four lead changes. Ozarks led 36-35 at halftime. The Eagles went in front by one point at the 13:37 mark of the second half, but couldn’t hold onto the lead. The Eagles did battle back and pull with six point with 4:04 remaining. However, the Eagles went cold over the next three minutes and the Cowboys scored nine straight points to secure the game. Bryson Johnson came off the bench to score 20 points. The Eagles three seniors – Kelvin Knight, Cory Wilhelm and Cordy Winston – were honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day. All three started the game.
  • Strong Second Half Lifts Eagles Past McMurry
    February 20, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles outscored McMurry University 66-46 in the second half and shot 63 percent during that stretch to outlast the War Hawks in an emotional 101-82 win Thursday night. McMurry led 36-35 at halftime, but the Eagles dominated the final eight minutes of the game. With McMurry trailing just 61-59 with 8:55 remaining in the game, the Eagles turned it up a notch and went on a 8-2 run. Hanging on to a 82-76 advantage with 3:11 left, the Eagles went on another burst that left the War Hawks frustrated. The Eagles closed out the game on a 19-6 run. The Eagles also hit 21-of-28 from the free throw line in the second half, including four straight by Kelvin Knight following a War Hawk double technical foul. Bryson Johnson sparked the Eagles off the bench with 25 points.
  • Eagles Drop Belhaven Game In Overtime

    Jackson, Miss.-Belhaven was able to score first in overtime and never let go of the lead to hand the Eagles a tough 93-90 setback Saturday. The Eagles led 46-42 at halftime, but Belhaven fought back to eventually force overtime. Belhaven missed a free throw with five seconds remaining in regulation to allow the Eagles a second chance. The Blazers hit 5-of-8 from the field in overtime while the Eagles made 2-of-7 of their shots. The Eagles shot a solid 54 percent from the floor in the game. Zach Bobo had an outstanding day scoring 25 points and missing just two field goals. Bobo went 11-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from long-range. Cory Wilhelm went 9-of-11 from the field and scored 22 points. Wilhelm grabbed 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
  • Johnson Clutch Down The Stretch In Eagles Road Win

    Pineville, La.-Bryson Johnson scored the final two baskets of the game to lift the Eagles past Louisiana College 72-70 Thursday. The Eagles trailed 70-68 with 1:27 left in the game, but Johnson made a layup with less than a minute to play to even the score 70-70. The Eagles got the ball back after a missed shot from Louisiana College and Johnson hit a clutch jump shot with less than ten seconds remaining to put the Eagles in front for good. Johnson came off the bench to score 20 points. The Eagles outshot the Wildcats 43 percent to 36 percent and held a 35-32 halftime lead. Cordy Winston hit a trio of three-pointers to score 17 points.
  • LeTourneau Men Hit 20-of-21 Free Throws In Second Half Comeback
    February 08, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-Fueled by a 20-of-21 (95%) free throw performance in the second half, LeTourneau University overcame a 42-38 first half deficit to edge the Eagles 79-74 Saturday. The YellowJackets overcame a 14-point second half deficit and outscored the Eagles 41-32. The YellowJackets also hit 20-of-21 from the free throw line in the second half. The Eagles trailed 27-19 with less than nine minutes left in the first half, but went on a 23-11 run to close out the half. The Eagles would build a 14-point advantage at the 16:28 mark of the second half only to have LeTourneau storm back. The YellowJackets grinded away and eventually evened the game 62-62 with 8:23 remaining. Cory Wilhelm made a bucket to tie the game at 70-70 with 2:56 left. Nate West would hit a pair of free throws and drill a three-pointer and the Eagles never held the lead again. Jacobe Davis scored 17 points. Cory Wilhelm pulled down 14 rebounds.
  • Willhelm Posts Double-Double In Loss

    Clarksville, Ark.-East Texas Baptist University hit 60 percent from the field in the second half to pull away with a 83-64 win over the Eagles Thursday. The Tigers narrowly led 39-34 at halftime, but opened the game up going on a 13-0 run over a four-minute span in the second half. After that, the Eagles could never catch up. For the game, East Texas Baptist hit 58 percent from the field, while the Eagles made 38 percent. Jacobe Davis paced the Eagles with 17 points. Corey Willhelm pulled down 13 rebounds, the second straight game he has done so. He added 13 points to record a double-double.
  • Texas Dallas Edges Eagles In ASC Basketball Matchup
    February 01, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-Texas Dallas edged the Eagles 64-60 Saturday in a big conference matchup. The Eagles led 26-24 at halftime and held the normally strong shooting Comets to 22 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes of play. Cordy Winston paced the Eagles with 13 first half points. The Comets came back to hit 52 percent from the floor in the second half. Trailing 58-45 with less than four minutes remaining, the Eagles produced back-to-back three-pointers to quickly climb back into the game. A layup by Bryson Johnson with 1:38 remaining brought the Eagles to within 60-53. Jacobe Davis later followed with a layup and the Eagles trailed 60-55 with 43 seconds left. After a Comet missed free throw, Davis drove to the basket for yet another layup and the Eagles trailed 60-58 with 20 seconds left. The Comets answered with two free throws, but Davis wasn’t done as he drove inside for a shot to cut it to 62-60 at the 12 second mark. But the Comets hit two free throws and the Eagles missed both of their shot attempts with less than five seconds left. Winston scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Eagles. Cory Wilhelm pulled down 13 rebounds. 
  • Men's Basketball Has 84-78 Setback
    January 25, 2020
    Alpine, Texas-The Eagles hung tough for the entire game but came out with a 84-78 loss against Sul Ross State University Saturday. The Eagles shot better from the field than Sul Ross (48 percent to 46 percent). The Lobos led 42-38 at halftime and kept a small lead throughout the second half. The Eagles made a run with about two minutes remaining and cut the deficit to 78-76. It was 80-78 with 30 seconds left, but Sul Ross hit all four of its free throw attempts down the stretch. Jacobe Davis scored 22 points to lead the Eagles.
  • Eagles Fly Past Howard Payne For ASC Road Win

    Brownwood, Texas-The Eagles put up an impressive performance in a 80-72 win over Howard Payne University Thursday in Texas. Howard Payne led just once in the entire game and that came early as the Eagles hit 50 percent from the field in the win. The Eagles led 34-29 at the half and extended the lead to 56-44 at the 11:15 mark of the second half. The Eagles remained in control the rest of the way. In the second half, the Eagles hit 62 percent from the floor. Jacobe Davis had 12 of his 18 points in the second half. Cordy Winston had 15 and Tim Turpin added 12 points. Cory Wilhelm pulled down 13 rebounds.
  • Men's Basketball Upended By Louisiana College
    January 18, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-A long scoring drought by the Eagles allowed Louisiana College to pull away in the second half and secure a 78-68 conference win Saturday. Tied 46-46 with 14:20 left in the game, the Eagles wouldn’t score again until the 9:13 mark. By that time the Wildcats had built a 64-48 lead. The Eagles never recovered. Louisiana College led just 32-30 at halftime. The Wildcats benefited from hitting 14-of-26 from the three-point line in the game. Darnel Renelique posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles.
  • Eagles Fall To Belhaven In Home ASC Contest

    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles made a couple of late runs to pull within striking distance, but it wouldn’t be enough as Belhaven University took a 86-77 win Thursday night in conference play. The Eagles trailed the entire second half, but slowly got back into the game and climbed within 67-61 on a Jacobe Davis three-pointer. Cordy Winston hit a pair of big shots to close the gap to 73-69 with 2:03 remaining. But the Eagles never could take the lead as Belhaven made its free throws down the stretch. Davis had a big night hitting 4-of-6 from long-range to score 28 points. He went 12-of-21 from the field. Cory Wilhelm posted a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
  • ETBU Men Finish Game With 24-5 Run

    Marshall, Texas-East Texas Baptist University opened up a tight game by outscoring the Eagles 24-5 in the final ten minutes of the game to pick up a 74-58 win Saturday. The Tigers caught fire in the final ten minutes, while the Eagles went on a scoring draught managing only five points. The Tigers led just 36-34 at halftime. The Eagles shot better from the field (45% to 41%) in the contest. Cordy Winston led the Eagles with 20 points.
  • LeTourneau Scores 24 Points In Final Seven Minutes

    Longview, Texas-A strong night from the free throw line helped LeTourneau University put away the Eagles 86-69 in conference play Thursday in Texas. The YellowJackets hit 17-of-20 from the free throw line to secure the game. LeTourneau led 40-36 at halftime and maintained a double digit lead for the first ten minutes of the second half before the Eagles rallied. Tim Turpin drilled a three-pointer at the 8:55 mark to pull the Eagles within 60-55. Another three from James Helzer made it 62-58, but the Eagles scored just four points over the next four minutes. The Eagles went to the free throw line eight times. Jacobe Davis led the team with 20 points.
  • Eagles Finish Final Five Minutes With 15-5 Run To Post Win
    January 04, 2020
    Austin, Texas-The Eagles took control of the final five minutes of the game to pull out a 75-67 win against Concordia University Texas Saturday. The Eagles trailed 62-60 at the 5:10 mark of the second half, but went on a 15-5 run to finish out the game. Cordy Winston started the burst with a pair of free throws and then followed with a jump shot on the Eagles next possession. Tim Turpin then nailed a three-pointer to put the Eagles in control the rest of the way. Winston posted a team-best 21 points and hit 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Cory Wilhelm and Bryson Johnson both had 14 points and six rebounds. Turpin finished with 11 points.
  • Second Half Push Not Enough For Eagles Against Mary Hardin-Baylor

    Belton, Texas-The Eagles had a big second half outscoring Mary Hardin-Baylor 52-41 but still fell 84-80 Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play. The Crusaders led 43-28 in the first half but the Eagles found a rhythm in the second half to pull within striking distance with less than five minutes remaining. After chipping away at the deficit in the final ten minutes of play, the Eagles got to 75-67 on a Cordy Winston layup with 3:38 left. James Helzer drilled a three-pointer to make it 77-72 and Bryson Johnson hit two three-pointers late to pull within 82-78. However, the Crusaders made two key free throws with nine seconds left to extend the lead to 84-78. Jacobe Davis had an impressive offensive night hitting 10-of-21 from the field to score 24 points. He also dished out five assists and recorded two steals.
  • Men's Basketball Team Suffers Road Loss Against Hendrix College
    December 29, 2019
    Conway, Ark.-Hendrix College led 43-28 at the half to fuel a 79-56 win over the Eagles Sunday in Conway. The Warriors shot 51 percent from the field in the first half to spark a big lead in the first half. In the second half, the Warriors held a 20 point lead for most of the time and didn’t allow the Eagles to make any runs. The Warriors hit nine three-pointers in the game. The Eagles struggled from the free throw line hitting only 4-of-13. No starter for the Eagles reached double figures in scoring. Jacobe Davis led the Eagles with nine points. 
  • Eagles Net 74-66 Over Austin College
    December 14, 2019
    The Eagles shot over 50 percent from the field and snapped a three-game losing skid in a 74-66 win over Austin College Saturday in Texas. The Eagles made 12-of-13 from the free throw line to hold a 38-29 lead at halftime. Zach Bobo scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the first half. Austin College held just one lead in the game, and that came on the first points of the contest 45 seconds in. Bobo hit a jumper at the 15:22 mark of the second half to put the Eagles in front 48-37. From there, the Eagles held a double-digit lead for most of the way. Jacobe Davis and Cordy Winston had 14 and 12 points, respectively. The two teams combined for 43 turnovers. 
  • Comets Fight Off Eagles' Rally

    Richardson, Texas-The Eagles climbed within four points late in the second half but never caught Texas Dallas as the Comets gained a 69-57 win in their American Southwest Conference opener. The Comets opened the game with a 11-0 run before the Eagles tied the score 18-18 on Cordy Winston’s bucket at the 9:28 mark. The Comets went into halftime in front 32-25. In the second half, a Zach Bobo jumper at the 5:24 mark pulled the Eagles within four points, but the Comets reeled off a 16-8 run in the final five minutes. In the game, the Comets went to the free throw line 27 times, while the Eagles went eight times. Jacobe Davis had 13 points to lead the Eagles.
  • Ten Second Half Three-Pointers Doom Eagles
    November 30, 2019
    Lincoln, Neb.-Buena Vista broke open a tied halftime score by hitting ten second half three-pointers en route to a 100-74 win over the Eagles Saturday. Cordy Winston scored 16 of his 22 points in the first half and helped the Eagles hold a 46-46 tie at halftime. Buena Vista's defense couldn't slow the hot-shooting Winston, who went 5-of-6 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line, in the first half. The Eagles shot a sizzling 64 percent from the floor in the first half, while Buena Vista hit 47 percent. In the second half, Buena Vista made 10-of-20 from the three-point line. The Eagles outshot Buena Vista from the field (56% to 48%) in the second half, but were outscored 54-38. Buena Vista scored 26 points in the final nine minutes of the game. Winston was named to the All-Tournament Team. Bryson Johnson added 20 points. 
  • Bowman's Record Not Enough Against Nationally-Ranked Nebraska Wesleyan

    Lincoln, Neb.-Ethan Bowman hit seven three-pointers, a record in the Nebraska Wesleyan University Snyder Classic Friday night, but it wouldn't be enough as the No. 8 NWU Prairie Wolves took a 95-70 win. The Eagles trailed 38-27 at halftime behind Bowman's 13 points and Zach Bobo's 11 points. Bowman had four three-pointers in the first half. The Eagles held a brief lead at the midway point of the first half, but Nebraska Wesleyan had a 34-24 lead at the 4:19 mark. The Eagles fought back and got a clutch three late from Cordy Winston to pull within 38-37 at the half. The Prairie Wolves opened the second half with a 17-2 run to take momentum of the game and the Eagles never recovered. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line in the game. Bowman finished with 22 points.
